My name is Sabrina Shapsis and I live in Staten Island, New York. I am 16 years old, currently in my junior year of high school, and I hope to inspire more youth to come forward and help support Ukraine. From a young age, I have had a strong affinity and love for art along with an insatiable fascination with creative writing and reading. I first began writing poetry and short stories in eighth grade, some of which are now featured in my book “The winged trail”. My dream as an aspiring author is to touch people around the world with my writing and spread a sense of hope and unity.
Work That Has Been Done
Work That Has Been Done
While I have recently began a non-for-profit organization called “Illustrating Nadia” that supports and raises money for children’s hospitals throughout Ukraine, more work has been done in the past. Last year, I, along with some classmates, gave a presentation about the current situation and brief history in Ukraine, and organized an in-school supplies drive to send over the counter medicine, blankets, food items, clothes, toys, etc. to facilities in Ukraine through an organization called Meest. Our drive got so much support that we ended up collecting a whopping 177lbs of supplies that were safely transported all the way to Ukraine. I continue to post information regarding the war on social media, and thanks to my Ukrainian friend, I try to keep myself informed about this crisis. I hope this organization of hope and unity can help many more in need and inspire large support during this difficult time.
